My Story
Merinda's dedication to education began early, as she pursued her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in Special Education at Georgia State University. This solid foundation laid the groundwork for her career in teaching and community engagement. However, her thirst for knowledge and innovation pushed her further.
She embarked on a journey of academic growth, earning a Masters of Arts graduate degree in Creative and Innovative Education, still at Georgia State University. This specialized degree equipped her with a unique perspective and a deep commitment to equity-focused education. It was during this period that she co-founded Black Girls International, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young girls of color through international travel and cultural education.
Ms. Baker's impact in education goes beyond the classroom. She has been an advocate for both students and teachers, championing the principles of abolitionist education and creating professional learning environments that foster growth and inclusion. Her commitment to culturally relevant education and student-centered pedagogy has allowed her to connect with and inspire a diverse range of learners.
Merinda's passion for promoting financial literacy within communities of color has been instrumental in empowering individuals and driving equitable economic progress. She recently released her debut children’s book, “I AM MAKING CENTS OF MONEY: Financial Literacy Affirmations for Elementary and Middle School Kids - 21 Days of Growth Mindset Practices.” Her work in this area serves as a pivotal bridge between education and economic empowerment, making her a beacon of change in the communities she serves.
Merinda Baker's journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to educational innovation, equity, and empowerment. Her diverse experiences, from the classroom to non-profit leadership, exemplify her dedication to shaping the future through knowledge, compassion, and innovation.
